Thoughts from a Missionary Kid
Stories of Gratitude, Identity, and Quiet Miracles
Born in the Philippines to missionary parents, Jayn’s early years began with speaking Tagalog, playing barefoot with local village children, and quickly learning what it meant to belong to more than one world. Born with several bone disorders, Doctors believed she might be crippled from birth — yet God wrote a different story. In this warm, humorous, and deeply personal event, Jayn shares snapshots from her childhood: the joy of island life, the shock of returning to the United States, and the ache of feeling “different” even when she finally looked like everyone else.
Through these stories, she invites families, churches, and young people to see God’s faithfulness in the small things, to practice gratitude in every season, and to remember that identity is shaped by His love long before the world has a chance to define us.
